# Skills and agents

## Skills

A skill is a reusable set of instructions for a recurring job — how your team writes a weekly report, the checklist for onboarding a supplier, the house style for customer emails. Instead of re-explaining the process every time, the agent loads the skill when the task comes up.

* **Built-in skills** ship with Fieldwork and can be added from the library
* **Custom skills** are yours: write them in markdown, optionally attach reference files, and share them across your organization
* Skills you have access to are advertised to the agent, which loads them mid-conversation when relevant — or you can invoke one explicitly from the skill picker

Sharing follows the same access-control model as everything else: give teammates read access to use a skill, edit access to maintain it.

## Agents

An agent is a purpose-built persona: a name, a system prompt, and an equipped set of skills. Where your default conversations are general-purpose, an agent is the specialist — "the reporting analyst," "the support drafter" — configured once and used by anyone who can access it.

Agents are versioned: edits create revisions, so a persona someone relies on doesn't change under them silently. When you talk to an agent, its equipped skills come with it, resolved against the organization's live skill instances.
